Go Dark or Go Home (til October)

I can't lie right now. I am loving my dark hair- as I mentioned on Monday- I changed my hairstyle this week.
I love that you can tell it's not mine because I think a rich dye job is smokin'. I went shorter, I went darker and I am a happy girl.

I'm a bit of a hair chameleon. I bore easily and over the last 5 years, my hair color has gone from platinum blonde (which... mind you, I didn't ask for and will never do again but glad I did it to know. I did always wonder if I would like it) to black. This time last year? I was blonde. And as I type this, it's hard to find my hair as it lays against the shoulders of my LBD I wore to work.

I don't like any hair color more than the other but I definitely get into the color I have when I get it because... well- I wanted it and so I welcome it like I did the tooth fairy at night- bringin' me my change!

What's almost funny is that I used to think that you only could be pretty if you were blonde. Laugh all you want, but I literally thought this. To me,
brunettes were Moms and CEOs, not girls in tank-tops and denim skirts. I thought all the popular girls were blonde and that it was the only way to go. Surely, I thought so many brunettes were pretty but I thought what society and men liked was... blonde.

Really what truly opened my eyes to the youthful look of brunette hair was my best friend Megan (seen on your right). She rocked
(and still does) the dark, dark hair and I specifically remember one day looking at her and thinking that her hair color far surpassed the dime-a-dozen blondes.

Though, in the story of my life, Megan far outshines the few girls listed below but here's a few other girls who, I think... put the fire in dark hair.

{I love Audrina. Always have- albeit she's a bit of a pushover but she's gorgeous, badass and rocccckkkssss that dark hair}

Freida Pinto
{Seriously... you're THIS pretty?}

Courteney Cox-Arquette
{I still watch AT LEAST 6 episodes of Friends a week and basically have it memorized. I wish there was some million dollar prize on it... I bet I could even bet Courteney at it!}

To my blonde loves: fear not! This post is not an insult to you as I love blonde hair as well. In fact (as I always have a plan for my hair), I am going to go blonde in October or November because I will be bored of this by then. I know it will be Fall with orange leaves and rustic nights and you're not supposed to go lighter then... but to hell with the rules, that's MY plan.

I hope your Thursday is great. Mine surely will be as The Boy and I are celebrating my birthday downtown over dinner and then meandering through First Thursday in the whimsical, alive streets of Portland.

Have a beautiful day you redhead, blondes, brunettes
(and everywhere inbetween)
!

Audrina, Freida, Courteney

I love this post. I love your blog in general, lady! I get excited when I see a new post. I'm naturally blonde, which means that at my 28 year old age, it's a pretty dull dishwater now. I've been putting highlights and lowlights in it for years, but about a year ago I stopped dyeing it entirely because I desperately want it to be thick and shiny and healthy again! But I'm getting bored . . . I want vibrant color again. :)

I loooooove dark brown hair, and I even tried dyeing mine dark brown for a year in college, but it's so different from my natural hair color that I had to constantly dye it in order not to have blonde roots. It's fun to dye hair, but also so tedious!!!

I'm sure you look beautiful no matter what your hair color is!

Loving the haircut and color. My hair is naturally very dark (close to what I pay someone to make it look like, but I don't need to explain that - you understand the obsession!) and I went blonde about 6 years ago. It was fun but oy - it did some damage.

In your previous post I ddn't notice your hair got so much shorter! But I love this, and the haircolor looks great in that pic - you can really see the shine and all that comes with it when dark color is put in your hair :)

Your new 'do looks phenomenal! Seriously! It looks so sassy and edgy. Love. I used to be ridiculous about dying my hair, and I probably will end up doing it again at some point. It's taken soo long to get my hair back to it's natural color! I love that you can effortlessly pull off any look, although I think you rock the dark.

Ohh, you look lovely! I think brunettes are infinitely more mysterious looking than blondes:)

You in dark hair is dynamite! You look amazing! As does the BFF Megan.

There's something about dark hair that always makes one's features (read: eyes) pop like never before. Love!

Have a fabulous time with The Boy tonight, my love!! :)

The hair is amazeballs (as always)! I think it's great that you mix it up with color. My husband would LOVE for me to go dark brunette, I would like him to have the body of Kellen Lutz, but that's not going to happen either!

The dark looks fantastic! I have never been brave enough to do anything more drastic than a few low lights ~ just don't think I could pull off being a brunette, but I love how it looks on all these gals, including your beautiful bff!!

The dark hair looks FAB on you! Yum! I did dark hair for a long time and I really loved it. The upkeep got too much after awhile though - I'm actually back to natural for the first time in years!

You look stunning!! I love the razored ends on your cut! And the color is perfect!
I love darker hair. I used to think that I looked good with ONLY blond hair, I thought I looked manly with dark hair for some weird reason. But now I LOVE IT!! Plus, it's so much easier on the bank account for me, not having to get my roots done every month =)

Last summer, for the first time in my life I went brown. I loved it for the warm, sunny months bc I think it matches better with a little tan. Then came October and the bleach was applied. I think that's the way to go...

i'm sure you would look fantastic no matter what colour your hair was. i like brunette, but you would look pretty with silver-gray and blue hair as well. I'd suggest avoid the orange and green Mohawks. Have a wonderful birthday weekend. Incidentally i think Chicago sounds nice with someone who knows it for those who aren't as wimpish as i.
