So for the last few days, I've had the lovely privilege of being struck with an ever-so-slight fever that knocks all of my energy, keeps me freezing cold and has me in bed about 1 hour after work (seriously, yesterday I went to bed at 7pm and slept until 5 am the next morning as I got up for work). It's the worst kind of illness because I do not feel qualified to take a day off from work yet it makes my days miserable. Ugh! It also zaps my energy, I wanted to blog this week but decided that sleep was First Wife. Well, I've set a goal tonight of an 8:30 PM bedtime and it's 7:54 PM so I have about 20 minutes to throw this up here.
My New Years was two-parter. The morning of NYE, my Dad, Brother and I got up early and headed off to the Mountain for a day of Skiing. I had JUST gotten new skis for XMas so I was anxious to break them in. It was brilliant: my Dad, Bro and I all ski at pretty much the same level so it's fun to shoot down the slopes together. On top of that, getting on the mountain invigorates your senses- part of your lift ticket undoubtedly includes the views you get to see. So pretty. Only downside: a very cold windchill which left me insanely thankful for Lodges and their fireplaces.

But once it was back at home and feeling better after a hot shower, it was party time. If you follow me or know me, you know that I love downtown. I've blogged about outings here, here, here and countless other posts- I love it. But on NYE, it is another story. Over the years I have come to the solid conclusion that the last place I ever want to be when the ball drops is downtown. I always spend a small fortune and deal with expensive cabs, expensive drinks (which you can barely get because the crowd) and it's just not fun. That's why this year, I was ecstatic when my girlfriends invited me and The Boy to a Mansion house party. The Boy alas, got sick (probably why I am..) and couldn't come, it was a bummer. But I had a wonderful time with my friends. Best part: I only spent about 15 dollars on the ENTIRE night and had way more fun than I ever had. Bad Part: I am fairly certain I looked like Kelly Clarkson. I like her... but she's not really my style icon.
All in all, it was a fabulous day. And I have some resolutions but I'm keeping them close to the chest, just seems right this year.
Also, as I scope the blogosphere, looks like people had wonderful new years: great dresses, adorable children and oh so wonderful shoes. Did I mention venues? I truly love blogs because I love seeing the posts of those who celebrated downtown in a skyrise...AND all the way to those who celebrated at home with their spouse and wee one. All your lives are so wonderful to peek into and I thank you for that.
Happy New Years! 8:25- I made it! Goodnight.

Totally hear you on downtown and NYE--I opted for a small house party this year as well. And feel better soon! I had a raging illness over Christmas and it was miserable! sending good health vibes your way :)

Your New Year's day and even sound perfect to me! Family time + time with friends, sports and partying, outdoors and staying in... Best of both worlds and all in one day!
Hope you get better as soon as possible!
P.S. I don't see the Kelly Clarkson thing?
P.P.S. Thanks you SO much for sharing your family story in one of your recent comments - I appreacited your willingness to share it with me!! And I definately liked your dad's approach and how he even chose to have this sort of a symbol for it.
That sounds like a lousy illness. I hope you feel better soon, and the skiing would be a great way to celebrate the new year.

Skiing...SO JEALOUS. I haven't been skiing in years, which is sad, because my dad and uncle used to take me and my bro every year when we were little. I need to go SOON!
And Kelly Clarkson? I don't get the reference...because as usual, I think you look like perfection!! Your girlfriends are gorgeous too...I like having those around, makes me look better ;)
