the fond memory of the horrible denim dress

About4 or 5 years ago, I was at Buffalo Exchange and found this denim dress that I fell in love with. I honestly, don't know what it was that I loved about it- but I LOVED it. I just felt good in it and its tightness and shortness and just all around funness (I know that's not a word).
However, I know that it's horrible. I wouldn't wear it now or if I did, I would dress it up so much differently than I did in these images... so different. I would lose all the bling and cover the denim with a long, cream, button-up sweater and conservative shoes and reserve it strictly for weekend dalliances.

While I sought a style that's all my own, I neglected a lot of fashion rules simply because I didn't quite know them yet: less is more, brown and black CAN go together, balance your pieces... this meant that I often learned through trial and error what worked and what didn't. In the House of Fashion: this dress didn't. But, not for nothing-this dress at this point in time, made me feel good. So there is a bit of a beautiful aspect to the long journey of finding your fashion self- these images bring me nothing but joy.

The funny part? Looking at this dress now and knowing how bad it is... I still love it and kinda want to wear it. :) I guess there's just something about Mary my denim dress.

What piece do you have that's so 'bad', it's officially 'good' in your eyes?

this post is kind of the story of my life to be honest. i look back at photos and look at my old favorite items of clothing and i cringe. but then i put myself back in time to how cool i felt wearing it, and it makes me smile.

one of my favorite looks ever is suspenders. i use to rock them like nobody's business. and now, i don't really wear them much, but i still have a thing for them. another thing was the short shirts i recently did a post on. now i can't help but make fun of myself and cringe, but when i think about it, i felt sooo hot in them even if my body wasn't up to par with the short length of the shirt LOL!

oh, I love it! I always used to wear these weird arm sock things when I was younger. I used to wear them with everrrything even though they were red and black striped. I looked a hot mess- but they will always have a place in my heart haha

Denim Overalls. Seriously, I'm kind of in love with them. I know that they have the potential to make someone look like a farmer; but they're too cute!! :P

OMG I love Buffalo Exchange! I always find the best stuff there. I also love how you unabashedly share everything with your readers - even your fashion don'ts! :) I prob have too many fashion don'ts to count: denim overalls, denim dress, purple Fila tennis shoes, Girbaud jeans, Rocky Mntn jeans...

I don't think this is a bad dress, I actually think it looks good on you! Okay, maybe different accs or shoes, but the dress itself doesn;t look bad to me at all!! Especially if it makes you FEEL goos it can't quite be considered a bad item, can it? :)

And learning through trial and error is the way to go!

this made me giggle like a high schooler and i'm at work right now. it's so true how much laughter can come out of our previous fashion choices. love that you said, "you'd lose all the bling." it's a cool dress though, but definitely with a sweater maybe for those perfect spring days (i haven't seen many of them as of late).

I have an orange pleather jacket, which is rather short but it's so damn cool! I wore it once a few years ago, along with a pair of horrendous tight pants and there was no mistaking that I was close to getting my ass kicked for looking so ridiculous. I got rid of the pants but the jacket I hope to wear it some time when I'm senile and not care about crap.

Well - responding to your last post. I doubt I'll get any sleep anyway the morning of my wedding so I'll proabbly be up watching the wedding lol

and um... the denim dress is cute! it looks soooo short but you rock it! and it looks like you're kinda rocking it with cowboy boots? if so, even more appropriate lol

I actually think you look pretty adorable in that dress! It looks fun and appropriate for 2005ish.

For a long time I was self-conscious of the fact that what I wore was different from everyone else so I tried fitting in. I CRINGE looking at the pictures from that time because it's such a reminder of how lost I was. Wow. That is the most depressing comment I have ever left on someone's blog. OK, now I'm laughing again. :)

It is kind of a fun little dress:-) Hmmm, a piece I have that's so bad...I actually can't think of anything! BUT I've been cleaning out my closet, so maybe I should dig through it all and find something! xoxo

This post is too funny! I had a denim dress that I wore like it was going out of style. Silly me - it was already OUT of style!

Ha ha you should wear it again and style it up a bit! I know how that is though not being sure about something but your heart is still being tugged towards it a bit...

this post reminds me of when justin and britney wore matching denim outfits to a red carpet event! (only your denim dress is far cuter)!
it's funny to look back on stuff we used to wear. i was full of fashion faux pas when i was younger. i wore clothes that were too big for me, ill-fitting jeans, ugh, the list goes on.

ha! This is great!! I have a denim dress too, it's actually a halter that laces in the back - classy.... I just don't have the heart to get rid of it! And so each spring when I switch the closets it resumes it's spot near the back only to go to storage again in the fall. Oh well, maybe someday. Or maybe we should have some fun & do a 'bad outfit' challenge with the 'bad' pieces we love!!
