Shhh my kitty-cats...

Often on nights after work, when my mind isn't ready to settle into the evening at home quite yet but I still would like some quiet time, you will find me at the Public library. Admittedly, this hasn't been a love affair that has spanned years, but rather, a rediscovery of an old friend. I have essentially always had two experiences with Libraries: 1) Being a young child and heading there with my Mom and Sister to pick out books (great memory) or 2) Setting up camp at the library in college and being forced to read and study until my brain imploded (bad memory).

Now that I'm out of school and can read at leisure, I have found such solace in the library. There's so much there to simply absorb and it's a great place for a Solo date or a wonderful place to silently peruse with a significant other- luckily for me, The Boy loves books!
To be honest, I kinda feel like a fool for only rediscovering it recently. Most other places I meander after work make me many bucks poorer by the end of the night. The Library however, keeps me richer in spirit (puke) and wallet!
Do you have a love affair with the Library in your area?

I'm the same way - loved the library growing up but think college burned me out. I need to go more, I love bookstores and the library is free :)

I haven't been in a public library in foreverrr! I used to love going to the library when I was little. But, I sure can get lost in a Borders for hours. (But, since they are closing, I guess I can vist a old friend.)

When is Easter? I feel stupid asking that...Get Morange, I am trying to get everyone to buy that, yep.

Humm, not really... For some reason, I never really particulary loved libriaries although I have no bad memeories about them. I just always liked bookstores so much more. Maybe it's because I like the smell of fresh new books and like to know the book is all my own if I decide to take it lol Who really knows! :)

As for Mondays, I remembered yesterday after commentign on your post that I actually did a thankful post about Mondays!!! :) http://sothankfulproject.blogspot.com/2010/06/mondays.html

I adore the library, and always have! There is something so special about having access to all those books and information - for FREE!

There are two huge library systems in my area, the Seattle Public Library and the King County Library. I use both pretty frequently. The main branch of the Seattle library is INCREDIBLE. It's a newer building with all kinds of cool features. The older branches are great, too, since they're in cool old buildings.

i'm glad you've found a new love affair with a local library. i know it's a great resource, but i have ended my own affair with the library when i got done with grad school.

i'd rather read at a coffee shop, at the park or some place else that's not very "academic". like i said, i know that overall, the library is a great place, but back in college, i used it to sleep after i pretended to study on the 4th floor, while eyeing some hotties :)

p.s.
since i've been sick like it's going out of style almost every weekend the past few weeks, this was the first weekend where it was "back to normal." i remember one of my posts and you said, "is that all you ate during the weekend?" for the most part, it was because i couldn't keep food down. blleeccchhh. even though i want to move to boston (and l.a. will always be home), pdx is home away from home. lots of great stuff here.

i was definitely addicted to the library as a kid... i was SO into sweet valley high books, babysitters club books, and travel books (yes, even when i was like 8 lol). but i really have kind of forgotten its there over recent years as ive moved from place to place. i think i might need to venture back that way ;-) great post :-)

Sadly, where I currently live, I'm not close to any good libraries. But when I was younger, we lived near this huge one that we would visit each week, and I would check out loads of books. I could basically live in a library. Seriously. :)

I wish we had a good library in my town. I would live in there. But since we don't I spend way way too much time ordering books on Amazon. But I never run out of something too read! Since I graduated from college books have a whole new life. Being able to read again for pleasure is so much more exciting than it should be.

Caitlin I love you for this!!
For some reason I don't make the time to 'hang out' but I do love stopping by to check out audiobooks for the commute :) Did you know you can 'order' books too?! I just learned that recently - the librarian described it like Amazon but free with a little longer shipping time. I can handle that!

Loved this post! I enjoyed going to the library when I was little. The one we went to was in (the town of) West, TX. There were beautiful Czech costumes on display. I just remember gazing up at them while I carried around my stack of books. I need to reacquaint myself w/ our local library now. I feel like I'm being wasteful if I order them from Amazon!

I love that you go to the library! If I had the time, or mainly, if I could go alone and not have to drag two little loud kids with me, I would go too! I love that it's a place where quietness is enforced and you can just and relax, get away from the hustle and bustle. Not to mention a ton of books at your fingertips!

You still look totally adorable at the library :)

I love love love being able to read and find new books! but its SO hard to do while in school when you already have so much to read and do. I cant wait to meet an old friend like the library again... sigh

I love books too, but the library hasn't seen me in a while. Thanks for the reminder that an old friend is still there. :) and the photos make us feel like we are already there!

LOL i loved the way you put it.

I get everything online now. When you are in NY, you don't have time to do anything, much less go to a library. I love to read, but I get my stuff online and read on the ipad on my way home.

The libraries here in NY are to visit as museums only.

Of course! We try to go every week. I always love the latest CD and DVD releases, and of course there's no better feeling than getting lost in a book or exploring the floors of the library you've never seen :)

Yay nerds!!

since i moved i still haven't gone to the library to get a multnomah county library card, for some reason i feel like it will be a huge effort, so for the last year i've been spending way too much money at powells! good reminder my dear.

When I'm done with college the good memories of the library will return, unfortunately I'm still in the nightmare library zone..
