Outfit Post: The everlasting, often-voiced love for American Apparel

My friend Miranda likes to make fun of me a lot about the things I say. She claims that I pretty much always say these four things:
1) "Keep Portland Weird!" [Backstory: I love Portland, a lot- even with all its quirks. However, there's an annoying unofficial slogan attached to the city that suggests that we go out of our way to be found 'odd' or 'weird'. On paper that sounds fine but when you see the type of faux-Hipster, Goddess circle-chanting type indie-snob folk who push this slogan and refuse all mainstream things like Starbucks or showering, it is evident why this isn't exactly my favorite slogan. Whenever I see people doing something bizarre, uber-earthy or nutty, I can't help but say 'Keep Portland Weird' in a mocking tone because really... a man with two cats on leashes on his shoulders while he rides a unicycle isn't necessary... or cool.]

2) "Champagne Problems!" [Backstory: Describing problems that aren't real problems. Things such as complaining because you have too many clothes to choose from, etc. I dont' mean to say this a lot but we tend to complain about futile things]

3) "Portland can be so pretty sometimes". [Backstory: Miranda and I like to walk around and explore new things. In doing so, we often discover different activities or cultures of Portland that we've yet to experience. I always enjoy this and can't help but state that term a few too many times over the span of 5 minutes.]

4) "I really love American Apparel. Everything I get from there, I just really love." [Backstory: This very true statement is uttered because I am obsessed with all of my clothes from there and APPARENTLY, I voice this to her too often.]

But how can I not love American Apparel when I repeatedly fall in love with shirts from there like the one I wore this weekend, purchased in 2009 and still in love 2 years later...

American Apparel Oxford Shirt Dress found here.
Skirt- Urban Outfitters I'm wearing it even on the left sidebar of my Blog
Boots- From my late Grandma's closet, love walking a few miles in her shoes:)
Bracelets- F21 & this weird store at Chicago O'Hare airport.
Sunnies- Antique Store in Portland.

And in the final image above, you get to see a teaser for a later post this week. Julia, I tracked something down for you dear! :)

Enjoy your Monday, as best you can. Coffee, coffee, coffee!

What are friends for other than to poke fun at us?

I love the "Keep Portland Weird" comment--good that I can envision the funk from afar.

Coffee, coffee, and more coffee it is! I've been a little interested in learning more about Portland because the woman I made that permanent proposal of marriage to over 41 years ago lived there in Portland for few years during the mid 1970s. Your frequently said four things are a nice sneak peak.

I subscribe to American Apparel Video's Channel on YouTube and like their clothing - especially this Multi-Layered Reversible Petticoat. It's so feminine!

i sooo AGREE with your "keeping portland weird" comments. some are just outrageously uncool. oh, and i like the term "champagne problems" - i will steal that from you. your feelings on american apparel i feel for american eagle. i have jeans from 3 years ago that i still rock, their style doesn't fade as easy, and the fact that it still fits after 3 years means somehow after all the eating i've done, paying gym membership has its highs! haha it's always good to see certain things we buy that are still around and know that we've used them over and over again cause we love it so much!

I really feel like we would be BFFs if we were to ever meet in person. I say some of the same things over and over again, too. Mine are usually more obscene or outrageous, though.

"Champagne problems" hahahaha, omg it's SUPER genius!! I'm totally stealing that from you. Kinda reminds me of how I say "champagne on a beer budget" in reference to people who have expensive taste but no money, hahaha.

I wonder what my friends would say if they made a list of the things I say most often!?

"champagne problems!* okay i might need to borrow that one. so true, so true and i'm totally guilty.

now about those boots. um can we discuss?? your gram had it going ON!!

ps-i agree. sometimes the dirty hipster thing gets taken to an extreme and i just want to get out a big hose and expose the faux dirt. i mean come ON already. ugh!

How did you possibly narrow the list down to just four sayings? Let's keep it real here... Would you rather? That's what she said? Friends is the best show ever? remember that one time I met Chandler? I like turtles? These shoes are like biffs on BTTF? And don't get me started on repeated stories!! Hahaha xox.

Can you believe I've never shopped at American Apparel? We have a couple stores, but they're still far from me. The clothes are too cute, but I feel like the prices are a bit too high for me :( Are they worth it?

Ahhhhhh Caitiiiiieeeeeeeeee!! This is so super duper sweet of you, I love "my" photo!!!! Geeez, it's so exciting to read that you plan to write something about it?? :)) I stopped by to say thank you for the mention and the pic, I will get back to everything else you say in the post and in other posts this weekend like I've been doing lately (the new job is still a killer!) Thanks so much again, awww <3

Love this term for that - "Champagne Problems" describes this kind of moaning perfectly, really. It's also the kind of problems I believe most of us want to have lol (And then when we get them we don't appreciate - that's where I step in with all my gratitude haha)
