Houndstooth Dress: The Rough Draft Debut

Last month, I purchased this dress from H&M alongside its Cream counterpart which I blogged about here:
{H&M 18.95 though I can't find the dress on their site anymore.}

I have been very excited to wear it for the first time: the exposed zipper, the mathematical Houndstooth print and the conservative length all equaled endless possibility. I envisioned its Blog debut to be staged in my office with Mary Jane shoes and a layered collar sprouting up from beneath the neckline.

But rather, in an effort to power-through my hangover last Sunday, I wore it shopping with The Boy and our friends. I wanted to wear Yoga pants to this downtown event... but mind over matter meant that dressing up MIGHT help me to blow past my nausea (it did not).

Either way, here is how the dress was quickly pieced together last Sunday:
American Apparel amazing Socks can be found here. They're folded down but warm up to your thigh.

Personally, I think it's a bit "eh...". I'm a bit bothered that I chose a hangover day to try to rock it in all its potential glory.

In fact, if I have it to do over, I want it more like this:
Houndstooth Combos

So consider my first rendition of the Houndstooth Dress to be a rough draft. I can do better... way better... and I plan on doing so soon (perhaps this weekend since I will be taking it easssy). You ain't seen nothin' yet!
How do you wear your Houndstooth?

Being a Bama fan, I love my houndstooth. I usually wear it with a pop of color - red in my case :)

I don't think I'll look good in houndstooth but you look great and that skirt you picked out is so pretty.

I have been waiting to see this dress. Its beyond cute! I was at H&M few days ago, didn't see this, or your cream color one. I think its fine for its debut. I love the gloves over the dress. & I can't wait to see how you dress it up again. (I could never dress up the next day if I have a hangover.)

Did you go to AA yesterday?
I like how its made here & everything, but the price is way over my clothing budget. However, I am dying to get atleast one of those button downs. & I totally remember that scene in Clueless, the white CK dress right?

So cute! I love both the "rough draft" and future edit. ;)

I like my houndstooth with red. I feel like the red really makes the black and white POP. Plus, it looks really classic.

haha I always force myself to dress up on days that I feel kinda crappy and it usually does make me feel better. I personally like your outfit it's a bit Audrey Hepburn-esque.
I'm going to American Apparel to take a look at these socks they look really good and I love wearing socks like that over leggings in winter to keep warm.
Have a great weekend :)

I love it with this belt and gloves!! So sophisticated. As for me, I don't think I've ever owned anything in houndstooth print... Somehow it just didn't happen! Maybe I just don't know how to wear it lol

P.S. Guess what... Crazy Julia started yet another blog! More of a fashion and style related this time. Now you have an opportunity to pick at some of the things I love since most of what I post is the things on my wishlist haha http://withadashofgold.tumblr.com/ Let me know what you think :)

I love the dress on you. Bloody hell--I've been in there I don't know how many times this past month and never saw that dress or any houndstooth whatsoever. Robbed!

You look adorable...! You couldn't look any cuter. And, how do I wear my Houndstooth? Simple. I have never heard of the word until I just read it on your blog.

Caitlin - I don't know how you're so into fashion, nor do I get how my mom gets so excited about shoes and purses. Oh, to be a girl in this way -sounds fun (yet, exhausting for someone like me who doesn't think this way). I'm pretty amazed by your inherit fashion expertise.
