Bloody Mary: The One who is getting away.

Let it be known that I am a salt girl. I crave veggies over fruit. I want meatballs over ice cream. I desire a Denver Omelette over Strawberry Crepes. Annnnddd, I dream of capping off a date w/ the cutest boy from Home Ec class by staring into each other's eyes while we each sip from the same GravyShake. Mmmm, gravy.
I just am a savory-obsessed girl! Do I like Sweets? SURE. Should I stop asking myself questions on this blog that I then answer? Definitely. So yes, though I definitely like every sweet food item I mentioned above, the heart wants what the heart wants and it's usually salty, meaty & mashed-potatoey.

In addition to enjoying my savory-delights, I love to imbibe in a delicious spirit. I usually stick with Wine or Beer because I don't like the taste of hard alcohol too much. That and the cocktails are generally far too nauseatingly sweet for my palette.
So what's a girl like me to do when she searches for the perfect drink? Let's see: I like booze but dislike how sweet it is usually presented. I also love vegetables and salt. What kind of drink would be right up my alley?

Perhaps a Bloody Mary, right??
It pains me to say WRONG. For some reason, I do not like them that much and I don't get WHY! On paper they are the Sonny to my Cher, the Veronica to my Archie and the Mustache to my Tom Selleck, but they just don't taste right to me, much to my disdain and confusion.

 [all images taken by me]

But alas, I'm a girl with a goal: the goal to one day like Bloody Marys not because I think I should but because I do. So I will continue to order, continue to try, continue to train my savory obsessed mouth to accept its fate.

In the meantime, I'll just adore them for their rich vibrant colors. Like I did with The Boy's Bloody Mary at our brunch date with friends last weekend, which has now become the starring show in this post (AKA all the images above).

Do you like a good Bloody Mary?

Yeah, what Katie said...Maybe a martini will tickle your fancy? & I only had one Bloody Mary, in Vegas for $3, NASTY! I kinda want to try it now again after seeing these photos, $3 Bloody Mary did not look like this.

I am a SWEET and SALTY girl. That explains everything, right? Haha. I am not a Bloody Mary fan. at all. And being a sweet girl (that tends to overpower) I do not like sweet drinks or many cocktails. Give me beer or a dirty martini.

It's weird.. I am a salty girl too.. give me crisps, cheese, french fries and I'm happy. I never want dessert but when it comes to knocking down a drink or two I am completely drawn to the sugary sweet stuff.. think the most obnoxiously girly cocktails or pink moscato. It just doesn't make sense to me!!

I've never tried a Bloody Mary but it does look so festive! Good luck training yourself to like it.

I don't drink alcohol myself, but I'm kind of obsessed with the presentation and colors of some alcoholic beverages (martinis, Bloody Mary's, cosmos) - they are like tiny works of art! :)

I'm the same way; I much prefer salty foods to sweet foods. I don't crave chocolate, I crave chips and salsa. And bloody marys are take it or leave it for me. I'll drink it if it's offered, but I probably won't go out and order it for myself. I'm more of a Captain & Coke kinda gal.

Can you believe that I've never had a Bloody Mary in my life? I think I was never brave enough to taste the tomato juice :) But your post made me rethink my opinion, I should definitely give it a try!
I'm glad I've found your lovely blog and I'm your new follower :)

I love sweets!! Bloody Mary is not something that I enjoy. But I'll drink a Pina Colada with you ;) hahaha

Really, you'd pick something over ice cream? Oh no...lol

I love good Bloody Marys... too many places throw together some V8 and vodka and call it a day. I think the best ones are made with an infused vodka (think bacon, chipotle, or even lemon), and a thick, almost-soup-like tomato juice. Add in a beefstick or slice of bacon, string cheese, pickled onions and asparagus, maybe some celery and olives, and you've got yourself an actual Bloody Mary. :) Hope you find one you love... I think they are as crucial to brunch as lox. [And I definitely hear you on the salty over sweet things-- I can go months without having dessert, but I'm all about some salty snacks.]

Oddly, I've never ordered a bloody mary so I have no idea if they're good. Usually my brunch drink of choice is mimosa!

I LOOOOOOVE bloody marys. But to be of the utmost deliciousness, they have to be made with Clamato and not just V8 - it's saltier and tangier than V8.

I, too am a huge fan of salty/savory. I rarely crave sweet things (unless it's right after a meal, and can usually be satisfied by a Hershey kiss) but I could ALWAYS always go for a burrito :)

Also, let it be known that the most delicious bloody mary I have ever had was in Jamaica on our honeymoon. None shall ever compare.

i am not a fan, but once in a while, when i am out of town, the hotel bar seems to make an amazing bloody mary. i have yet to find a good one here in portland. chicago, boston and NYC hotels, i've had good bloody's there.

I've discovered that what I hate about bloody marys is bloody mary mix.

So if I order one, I'll basically say can I have tomato juice and vodka with a lot of green olives and celery?
