Have Yourself a Bickering Little Christmas Party

Every year... my Girlfriends and I have a "girls only" Holiday Party. It started with my high school crew in my teens and has now expanded to College Friends and Others we've loved along the way.... but it has always remained a "Girls Only, dress-up adventure". As much as the Champagne, the Appetizers and the Glitzy dresses have been a tradition- so is the annual email chain that commences months before and becomes everyone's shared Hell:

Girl: "Can we do it the 21st?"
Different Girl replies: "No, my Dad's in town."
"Okay, what about the 15th?" Says New Girl.
Diff' Girl: "No, I'm out of town. But I'm here the 21st."
"I'm fine with both days- but can we do it at my house this year?" Another responds.
"Um, I already claimed hosting this year. I did it at last year's party," spouts Another.
Another pleads: "I want to do presents! Like 70 bucks limit??"
"I'm having an expensive year, no presents please," replies Different Girl.
Chiming-in-for-the-first-time Girl: "Fine, no presents- but plllllease White Elephant."
"No White Elephant. I have nothing to give and I don't want everyone's old crap,"- Girl.
Excited Carnivore Girl: "I'm going to make Meatballs for my appetizer! They're homemade and so yummy!"
"That's so sweet, but I think everyone there is a Vegetarian.." says Bearer-of-Bad-News Girl.

And it goes on... and on... and on! No one person is to blame- it's a giant mix of too many cooks in the kitchen, plus the inherent nature of the crazy Holiday Season in December as well as the fact that Girls are annoying as Hell when it comes to collectively making a decision.

So- after a barking email chain that started in bloody JULLLLLLY- we all allowed our (gladly willing) Token Type-A'er in the group to take the reins and call the shots for 2012.

Which meant that in the name of not cleaning-up, something different and going out: we'd stay at a Hotel downtown this year. Which is what we did to celebrate our annual celebratory love for one another after the carnage of the horrible email chain cooled-off:
Shanin and Me have the same hair-colorist: can you tell?
I was so obssessed with Shanin's pretty outfit (Left) and (far above). She looked goooorgeous. As did all my Girls.
So even after the frustrating emails, I'm happy to report that we had another successful party full of belly-aching laughs, ladylike cocktails and savory discussions. But really- isn't Christmas a time when we all should come together with the people we love and prepare for more love, hugs and bickering in the year ahead?

I think all girls do that! That certainly happens every year with my friends - and this year was no different. But it's so worth it! There's somehting about the holidays that makes every party that much better...

soooo fun!! Totally sounds familiar. I have two groups of friends and we each do a party with a gift exchange. One of the facebook invites went out in October, and for the other there was an annoying facebook chain of deciding dates and arguing where it would be. It's all worth it though!

That sounds like so much fun!! And totally like planning goes for all of my friends too! It's great that your plans actually go through though...Usually I just get tired of it and say "Nevermind, I'll see you in the summer on the lake!" :)

This is just adorable - and so true! Girls are the WORST with plans. That's why you always need one girl to just take the rains! God bless that girl too! lol LOVE this idea though! Of spending a night at a hotel with your girls for christmas :) might have to steal this idea!
