Help! Transferring you Blog to your own Domain

So back in good ye olde last winter (AKA December), I decided to buy my own URL for this blog. I was really excited, told everyone in my family and started the steps of moving it over there. I'm not really sure why I'm so into blogging, I just am. I just like it. It serves some purpose for me. Fills a void. Let's my creative juices flow. I don't need it for an income. I just like to write.

Anyway, actually setting my blog up in the new URL has been the debilitating battle of my life since then. Make no mistake that I've have changed the URL and then ALMOST exported my blog 1,000 times but I have always ended up chickening out before I complete the entire transaction. I'm scared I'll lose years of my writing and 'work'. Not paid work by any means, just a beloved record of my life and thoughts which is priceless to me.
^Heaven forbid I post a pictureless post. So here's Chandler: Apple of my eye.
Has anyone else moved from Blogger to their own URL? Any tips on how you did it and what worked? I almost finish it every single time only to chicken out at the end - the URL is secure and I own it. Just how did your transfer go?

My main questions are:
1) Did your export go smoothly?
2) Were you able to update your blog easily from the new URL?

Any and all tips appreciated!
Please also feel free to email me at:

Thank you!!

Are you doing your own new site? If it is just the url you are looking to change that can easily be done in the blogger options and then everything here should stay the same. But if you are doing a whole new site, the export can go over and you can still leave this one here, as long as you don't shut it down it isn't going to go anywhere, as far as I know.

I have switched from to my own URL. It's been a few years but it was seamless and everything transferred over fine. I just set up a redirect in blogger.

I think you'll have an issue with bloglovin' from what I've heard but other than that it should be fine.

Also search how to back up your blog and do that before you make the attempt.

I've been messing around in blogger trying to figure out how to keep my blogger profile but link to my google+ account. While investigating I came across this in settings & it looks like you can use it to customize your blog url:

Go to your dashboard > more options > settings > Publishing then hit edit and type in your url

I haven't done it but it looks innocuous enough.
