$#!% I Always Have At My Desk

There's a lot of theories and thoughts about how it "takes a village to raise a child". And while I hate to diminish such a beautiful, poignant and true sentiment ... I kinda want to be like "... you know what takes a bigger village? Getting me through work weeks." Because THAT my friends, takes some serious effort on the part of my forever and ever, office essentials that are able to make the concrete jungles we call home all week, a little bit more manageable:

$#!% I Always Have At My Desk
  • L'oréal Volumnious Mascara - Fave lash buddy ever.
  • My Medicine Squad: Advil, Tampons, Midol (crafted by angels) & Dayquil - Covers a whole lot of bases in one swoop [Not pictured but also important: Deodorant].
  • Extra set of earring studs - Great for a pinch happy hour or meeting. And with the low cost of a pair of decoy earrings, no excuse to not have some ready to go on a day where you were a bit blah'er that morning.
  • Sunglasses - Duh.
  • An Umbrella - People always say Portlanders don't carry Umbrellas and to that I say BS. Especially as a working girl, one is necessary during those long city blocks.
  • Lipstick - Because there's no better 20-second facelift before a meeting.
  • Extra Pantyhose - Perhaps the most important item I have at my desk. They have been the glorious understudy to many dismal headliners on more than one occasion.
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste - So fresh and so clean, clean.
  • Pashmina - Scarves can seriously hide a multitude of sins. From a faulty button to a spill to a wrinkle: They are the Swiss Army Knife of accessories.
  • Tea - What would I do at work without tea? I drink it all day long. All day long. It's nice to have something warm to sip, it's always so refreshing and helps keep the snacking at a minimum.
  • A piece of fruit - Though mine generally is not bright pink, I always have a piece of fruit on hand for a quick bite and bit of sugar.
  • Hand Sanitizer - Cold season. Enough said.
  • Comb, Dry Shampoo & Bobby Pins - Again, because it's easy to forget that a client is coming in to the office in 15 minutes on day 3 of your hair.
  • MAC Studio Fix Powder- Bless this product.
  • iPhone + Charger - Zone out music and videos all day, err' day.
  • Black Eyeliner - Quick little bit of pop.
  • Heels AND Sneakers - If you are a city commuter like me, do not wreck your heels!!! I always have both sets of shoes with me. One for the trek to and from and one for when I'm working.
  • Clear Nail Polish - The Plan A before you bust open your emergency second pair of pantyhose.
  • Headphones - Nothing says "Don't bother me, I'm working" like a big, ol' set of them. And nothing helps you get your work done quicker either.

What $#!% do you need to get through the work day?

Headphones do help it get done quicker. Fun to put them on and hear what others are saying when they think you have music playing too haha I just want the work day to be over. Maybe bad breath will get them to send me home? lol no toothpaste there.

so true about the heels and sneakers. i never thought of it to take care of your shoes as well as your feet though, makes so much sense. i basically have a lot of the same stuff - spare pantyhose, dry shampoo, toothpaste etc... something i rely on pretty heavily is dryer sheets. i don't know what it is, but an item can be totally fine at home / the gym but as soon as i get to work it's clingy and unflattering so i wipe a dryer sheet over it and voila, perfecto. i used to use hairspray as i'd read that online somewhere but it didn't last all day.

Love this post! Headphones are my go-to at work, especially on Monday mornings! And I couldn't live without tea! Happy Tuesday!

I fail at keeping any beauty products at work other that lip stuff. Good point on using the scarf to hide stains etc. cause i definitely need this!

I seriously don't know what I'd do without snacks or meds at my desk! Obviously I would die of starvation or a headache! And I should totally start keeping an umbrella at my desk! There have been too many times that I'm ready to go home and I look outside and it's raining and I remember that I left my umbrella in the car. The tennis shoes or flats are also a necessity if you commute or if you just work in a downtown area. Too many of my friends at work won't go to lunch with us because it's too far of a distance to walk in heels.

Totally agree with all of these...I think a nail file, clear polish and polish remover are great to have at your desk in case there is a chip and you just need to fix it!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

I have this weird thing about not having too much personal stuff at work. Having been laid off once and fired once nothing is better than being able to pick up your purse and walk out the door never looking back lol. I do carry a big tote bag though with pretty much all of this stuff in it!

Such a pretty roundup, especially those sunnies - LOVE! I keep a lot of things at my desk as well, it's amazing but necessary considering we spend most of our waking hours at work :-P

I was like, "Ooo, they have pink apples now?" Lol. These are definitely great items to keep nearby. Unfortunately I'm not at a desk, I'm on my feet all day so my must haves include snacks, my brita filter water bottle, and coffee creamers in my purse for when I need a pick me up.

Ok, don't judge me, butttt I don't even own a pair of panty hose at all!!! Lol my cubicle necessities are Maybelline baby lips, advil, tampons, green tea, and some sort of water bottle with a straw.

Ooh, definitely don't have as much on my desk at work, but... Hand moisturizer, a nail file and a tub of paw paw ointment. And extra shoes. And a brolly cos it's rainy season. Defo need to stock up on my meds for those pesky hangovers, I mean headaches!!
